digital art
I'm in a hotel and I'm exhausted but I have to work on some digital art shit. Moans and groans. It's more important than this, since because journaling online doesn't make me money. I'm trying to keep the routine up.
a little travel earlier
A friend needs my help with an event tomorrow, so I drove into town, worked on my laptop in his office, and then drove us both to the hotel. I've been told younger Gen Z people don't use the ice bucket much, because they don't drink as much. I suppose drinking might not have as much allure, with how easy it is to find alcohol at a neighborhood brewery, amidst white families playing cornhole and walking their dogs. Edibles are The Thing for a lot of my friends, but drinking happens at parties. Maybe people just don't have one night stands involving hotels as much as they used to. Who can afford to do that at a hotel each time anyway...
I'm at a hotel to help my friend with a disability-related event. I've helped with this event before in past years, so there's a little bit of mundane satisfaction to gossipping about how the event has changed. I'm sure a lot of important conversations will happen tomorrow, and I'm always honored when I can be part of that or help somehow. But I also just like being around people in general. I am excited to talk about the food, to find out whether the air conditioning situation will be favorable for us this year, to see if the keynote feels pertinent and timely, all this kind of stuff that isn't really the main point of it. Also just to see who else shows. I get myself through difficult parts of volunteering or helping people by reminding myself it's important, but I get ENJOYMENT out of just being in a place with lots of different people.
Headache and Backache
The driving and the everything else has my head and back hurting, so I'm gonna go to bed soon.
My Day
- Get up
- Fuss with bluesky feeds more
- Play with cat
- Get ready for day
- Sorting my shit out some more. I found some shit I didn't realize I had and so I started working through that.
- I also put more books in boxes
- Woke up roommate
- Packed up shit in car
- Took friend to vape store
- Lunch, where I drew some vases as a little practice sketch
- Drove into Da City
- Helped friend gather up supplies for tomorrow from his office's storage room & put them in my car
- (Worried about a stranger who seemed to be having a difficult time)
- Tried & failed to convince friend to stop walking around his office building with his shoes off
- Drove partway to the hotel
- Escaped traffic & filled up on gas
- Returned to traffic & drove the rest of the way
- Checkin/dinner
- Here I am now.
Overall my day was like this:
Epigenesis
- "The Great Unwashed and the People’s Washing and Bathing Association." from Bibliophagist: a historical curiosity that intrigued me
- my bsky again: because i made some people lists this time. i've one for music, one for robots, one for nashville, and one for chicago.
- Al Gabor's Garden Scans: Here's some fantastic "scannography", an artform of using a scanner for photography. Gabor scans plants from his gardens, and his aesthetic sense is fantastic. My favorite image of his is on bsky though.
Not enough to need sections really. Here's some shit I just saw today, regardless of if I mentioned it.
